Symptoms of Tourette Syndrome

The symptoms of Tourette Syndrome are tics.

There are simple tics such as rapid eye blinking and unnecessary throat clearing, complex tics such as combined rapid eye blinking and unnecessary throat clearing tics being performed in a sequence or at the same time and there are tics with special names such as coprolalia and echolalia.

There are other behaviours that people with TS exhibit such as rage and aggression, inability to do cursive writing, refusal to wear certain clothing, repeatedly checking that the stove burner is off and pauses in speech patterns.

These behaviours are not tics and therefore are not symptoms of TS nor are they caused by TS.  They are behaviours that are part of an associated disorder.

Inability to do cursive writing is part of small motor skills deficit.

Refusal to wear certain clothing is part of sensory issues.

Repeatedly checking that the stove burner is off is part of OCD.
